How It Works

The science of nasal breathing, in plain language

Your nose is built for breathing. As air passes through it, the nose filters, warms, and humidifies that air before it reaches your lungs. Your mouth doesn't do this nearly as well, which is one reason many people who breathe through their mouth at night wake up with a dry mouth or throat.

Why the mouth falls open at night

When you sleep, your muscles relax, including your jaw. For some people, this lets the mouth drop open, and breathing shifts from the nose to the mouth. Nasal congestion, sleeping position, and habit can all play a role.

How Cosmic Corner fits in

1. Open: Cosmic Strips

Cosmic Strips sit on the outside of your nose and gently lift the sides of the nostrils, designed to make nose breathing feel easier.

2. Close: Cosmic Tape or Cosmic Strap

Cosmic Tape is designed to keep lips gently closed so you breathe through your nose. Prefer nothing on your lips? The Cosmic Strap supports your jaw instead.

3. Darken & quiet: masks and ear plugs

Light and noise can disrupt rest. Our sleep masks and ear plugs are designed to help create a dark, quiet sleep environment.

Getting started

  1. Try mouth tape for a few minutes while awake to get comfortable.
  2. Make sure you can breathe easily through your nose first.
  3. Build a consistent wind-down routine.
